The True Sport Experience

The True Sport Experience is a three-volume resource for educators of children and youth from age 6 to young adolescence that consists of a series of physical activities to facilitate learning the True Sport Principles. Whether you’re a teacher, coach or recreational leader, The True Sport Experience offers a balanced and intentional approach to the development of both ethical and physical literacy. 

The True Sport Experience comes in three volumes of activities that can be applied in and out of the classroom, as well as in the community and align with current Canadian physical education curricula.

  • Volume 1 aligns with children in the FUNdamentals stage of development (children aged 6-9). Download Volume 1.

  • Volume 2 aligns with the Learn to Train stage of development (children aged 8 or 9 to the onset of adolescence). Download Volume 2.

  • Volume 3 aligns with the Train to Train stage of development (young adolescents). Download Volume 3.

These resources provide:

  • An understanding of the True Sport Principles and how to teach them through quality physical activity experiences,
  • A summary of physical literacy, ethical literacy and Long-Term Development in Sport and Physical Activity with explicit connections made to each within the activities, and
  • A series of physical activities that facilitate learning the True Sport Principles while supporting children’s physical and ethical literacy development within the FUNdamentals, Learn to Train, and Train to Train stages of long-term development.

Physical & Health Education Canada Endorsement

The True Sport Experience is endorsed by Physical & Health Education Canada (PHE Canada). The PHE Canada endorsement process included consultation with an advisory team of experienced educators and sector experts from across Canada who have recognized the resource for its support of quality physical and health education programming and the promotion of healthy learning environments for students. Specifically, the resource was assessed on quality of content, accuracy and readability, pedagogy, application, relevance, inclusivity, design and illustrations, overall value to educators, and contribution to the health and well-being of students across Canada. PHE Canada recognizes that this exceptional resource “will support educators in planning and delivering meaningful learning experiences and provide opportunities for students to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to lead resilient, active, and healthy lives.”
