True Sport 4 School Box

Showing just how much one team can accomplish by pulling together to help those less fortunate.

The West Ottawa Warriors of the West Ottawa Soccer Club are a team with a strong sense of wanting to make this world a better place. As a team, we want to help others who have less than we do. We are proud of our commitment to True Sport, a national movement that believes in the power of sport to transform communities and helps to create safe and welcoming environments for everyone. As a True Sport team we work hard on and off the field to promote the values of respect, fairness, personal excellence, giving back, being inclusive, and staying healthy. One of our goals this season was to raise money for School Box, a Canadian charity that raises money to build schools and provide supplies to children in Central America. School Box also understands how sport can be used to motivate children and has created the Soccer Dreams Program where moneys are donated to build soccer fields and kids are provided with the equipment they need to play the game. In support of School Box and as a way of showing our team spirit and our commitment to our global community, we decided to run 5 km as a team and to have our friends and family sponsor us. On August 28th, 2012 we nearly doubled our goal of raising $1000 as a team with our final contribution being $1739.00. **Since applying for the True Sport Give-Back Challenge the President of SchoolBox has said that if they get 10,000 likes on Facebook two of their sponsors will donate 10,000$ towards building a new school in Niacaragua. **
