Pilates in the Park
An active tribute in the City of Port Moody, BC, which supports the triumph over cancer with all event proceeds benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society.
Sept. 18, 2010 - "Pilates in the Park" was hosted in celebration of Sports Day Canada, and inspired by the True Sport Give-Back Challenge. Pilates in the Park is an active tribute which supports the triumph over cancer with all event proceeds benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society. We all understand the benefits of an active lifestyle, but being active plays a huge role in the prevention and recovery from cancer. Working in the field of health and wellness gives us a special connection with the community. We are amazed to discover how many are touched by cancer, and battling this disease while quietly carrying on with the demands of each day. Sharing stories with people of their fight, their life’s passions, their families, their children’s lives, and how they capture a sense of personal freedom through the challenges before them, helped inspire us into action.
With a modest goal of raising $1,500 in our first year, the community quickly raised over $11,000 – all under 6 days! We hoped to see about 100 participants, and despite the rainy weather, over 84 people joined us on Sept. 18. Not bad for our first year! Such an outstanding response lends itself to carry this event forward, and make it an annual celebration.
