True Sport Challenges Canadian Communities to Give Back

(Ottawa, Ontario – June 1, 2012) – In celebration of Sports Day in Canada, September 29, 2012, True Sport is challenging all True Sport members to unleash the power of positive sport by participating in the third annual True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge.

True Sport members will be showing their community spirit by taking part in any activity that gives back to their communities. Members can gather their teams to clean up a local park, volunteer in a community centre or even organize a community fair and donate the proceeds to a local charity or cause. The idea is simple: good sport can make a great difference in communities across Canada.

“We’ve seen that the True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge has the power to change people’s lives in communities across our country,” said Karri Dawson, Director of True Sport Operations. “We’re challenging Canadians once again to reach beyond the field of play and use the values of good sport to help make a difference in their community.”

Recipients will be determined by Canadians through an online voting process and will be awarded cash prizes of $2,000, $3,000 and $5,000 to help bring the True Sport Principles to life in their activities. In addition, finalists will be featured on CBC during the Sports Day in Canada broadcast on September 29.

Register to participate in the True Sport Community Give-Back Challenge by September 5, 2012 by completing the online form. Participants will be asked to submit videos and stories depicting what they did to make a difference in their community.
